How many questions are on the California Real Estate Test?

There are 150 questions for the Salesperson exam and 200 questions for the Broker exam. All questions are multiple-choice.

What is the passing score for the CA Real Estate Exam?

  • Salesperson: You must score at least 70% (105 correct answers).

  • Broker: You must score at least 75% (150 correct answers).

How much does the California Real Estate Exam cost? As of 2026, the Salesperson Exam fee is $100. If you fail and need to retake it, the re-examination fee is also $100.

Is there a National and State portion in California? No. California is a “Unified Exam” state. You will take one single test that covers both general real estate principles and California-specific laws simultaneously.

Where do I take the exam? Exams are administered in person at one of five DRE testing centers: Sacramento, Fresno, La Palma (Orange County), Oakland, and San Diego. There is currently no option to take the exam online from home.
