Passing the real estate license exam is one life-changing moment. Nothing compares to the happiness you feel once you have passed the test (our users tell us daily).
Of course, taking the real estate exam can be pretty overwhelming. But, that’s why we are here.
Our goal is to help you achieve yours. Without further ado, here are the ten tips for passing your real estate exam.
#1 Practice. Practice. Practice
If you don’t want to end up like Mr. Bean, you would follow this advice. Practice makes perfect.
Practice tests resemble the actual real estate exam. Practice exams assess how well you know the content of the material.
And the best way to use real estate practice exams is to think of them as the real thing. This means that you should time yourself while you answer, turn off your phone (and other distractions), and focus.
Practice exams also reveal areas of improvement. Once you find out what they are, focus on improving on those areas.
When you’re done checking your answers, mark the questions you got wrong. Go back to them and study those specific concepts.
Who knows? Some questions on real estate practice exams might even appear on the actual exam.
#2 Study Real Estate Terminology, Vocabulary, and Maths
The vocabulary section is a considerable chunk of your real estate exam.
It’s important for you to understand the definition of keywords and other key concepts.
Familiarize yourself with them by using note cards. Review them daily until you get the correct answer for all the words.
Reciting your vocabulary terms out loud may also help, especially if you are an audio learner.
If you are part of the 99% of the population who is allergic to math, I’m sorry but you still have to answer that section.
Regardless of what state you are going to take your real estate exam in, there will be real estate math.
To make sure you pass this section, solve practice math questions. You can also try putting math formulas on your flashcards for you to remember them.
#3 Ask for Help From a Real Estate Agent or Broker in Passing the Real Estate Exam
As they say, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It means that you are brave enough to admit you need help from other people.
And besides, learning the material becomes waaaay more fun with other people, right?
Not only does this promote accountability, but a real estate salesperson would be able to give you advice on the law section of the real estate exam.
Every state, county, and town has a different set of rules and regulations. It wouldn’t hurt for you to ask others for advice or tips for passing the real estate exam.
Aside from that, connecting with real estate agents in your state expands your network.
A larger professional network means more opportunities for you to advance your future career.
#4 Prepare the Day Before the Real Estate License Exam
In the midst of mastering the material and the practice exam, do not forget your passport to your exam site.
Make sure to bring your real estate exam registration documents. Put it in a bag with your wallet and cellphone so you won’t be able to miss it.
Another tip before your big day is for you to have a look around your exam site. Visit the location and even walk your way to your exam room.
Fill up your car with gas. You wouldn’t want to be frantically looking for a gas station on the way to your exam site, would you?
#5 Get a Good Night’s Sleep the Night Before the Exam and Eat Breakfast
Have you ever crammed a lot of material into the night before the test? If you have, then you know it probably wasn’t a good decision.
We advise you to get a good night’s sleep the night before because it’s linked to higher test scores. Remember to rest well the night before your real estate licensing exam.
So, skip binge-watching on Netflix, or even the late-night calls with a friend.
After a good 8-9 hours of sleep, eat a good breakfast. Never take your real estate exam on an empty stomach.
Eat foods that are rich in omega-3s and antioxidants. For example, eat apples, legumes, and even some whole grains for that extra brainpower.
Remember, a good rest the night before + a healthy breakfast = a clear and alert state of mind.
#6 Read the Test Question and Choose the Correct Answer Thoroughly
Specific words and phrases give hints to the correct answers.
Don’t be scared to skip difficult questions. If an exam question is already taking so much of your time, there is no shame in skipping it.
From time to time, the answer to an earlier question is revealed in a later question.
What if I Don’t Know the Answer?
If you don’t know the answer to a question, you can take an educated guess.
In numbers you have no idea how to answer, you can always eliminate the wrong answers. Remember, the test makers made the estate exam a multiple choice.
Eliminating obviously wrong choices increases your odds of getting the answer letter to the exam question.
Sometimes, you really have to work backward until you are left with one or two options. Now, you have at least a 50% chance to get the question right.
#7 Stick With Your Gut Feeling
Once you have answered a question, do not change it. Do not doubt what you were sure of moments ago.
That kind of overthinking will only lead to confusion. As a rule, students are more prone to changing a correct answer to an incorrect one.
Stick with your gut feeling during your real estate exam.
Also, do not be afraid that ‘A’ is the answer to four consecutive questions. Selecting the same letter for the next question does not mean you are wrong.
These things happen during real estate exam questions.
#8 Pay Attention During Your Real Estate Exam
Since the test is multiple-choice, it would be easy to leave some number blank and fill in answers in the wrong order.
If you skipped test questions, make sure to come back to that number as soon as you can. If you’re not sure, take a guess.
While answering the real estate exam, do not keep score. This might discourage you and affect your overall performance.
This is one of the many real estate exam tips: don’t look around. If you start getting distracted, it throws you off your momentum.
#9 Fastest is Not Always the Highest
Do not race with other test-takers. These tips for passing the exam will be in vain if you do not answer the exam thoroughly.
Keep in mind that speed is not a factor to be considered in the broker examination. Getting more correct answers is more important than finishing first.
Do not be pressured if others finish before you do. The goal is to pass the exam. Never lose sight of that!
#10 Be Confident
With all of these real estate exam tips, the only thing left is for you to be confident. Remember why you have gone this far. It takes a tough one to reach this point.
Think of your future career and how it will advance after you pass this exam. Realize that you have worked hard to get here despite having work or school.
The only thing left for you to do is to trust that you will remember all the real estate exam videos you watched. That you will be able to get as many correct answers as you can.
