How to Study For The Iowa Real Estate Exam

(Hopefully) We can assume that you do understand the best way to pass any test is to fully understand the material. After all, getting your Iowa Real Estate License is one of the most important accomplishments of your life. So, how do we do that?

  1. Take real estate practice exams over the course of 1-3 months depending on your knowledge level.
  2. Watch YouTube videos of real estate exam prep teachers. They are awesome and they are free! We have quite a few but there are other great teachers as well.
  3. Memorize all the real estate vocabulary. This should be common sense, but make flashcards and just go over them until you know them all.

How many times can you take the Iowa real estate exam?

You must complete an additional 30 hours of real estate education if you fail one exam portion three times. You must complete an additional 60 hours of real estate education if you fail both exam portions three times. After these additional hours in case you fail all your attempts, you’re now able to re-apply and be eligible again.

How many questions are on the Iowa Real Estate Test?

We have interviewed PSI and spoken to the Iowa Real Estate Commission. We can confirm there are 120 total questions on the real estate exam for salesperson and 115 for brokers. On the national portion of the exam there are 80 questions and the remaining 40 questions are Iowa specific for salesperson and 75 national portion and 40 Iowa specific for brokers.

Yes! It is very hard. As of 2024, only 72% of agents pass the licensing exam on the first try.

The good news is, the people passing the real estate exam are using a real estate exam test prep (like us!) and their pass rate goes to 93%.

how much is the Iowa real estate exam?

The cost of the exam is $95 for brokers and salesperson, whether you take the State exam only or the National Exam only (or take both). Candidates must complete all course requirements and request their FBI report prior to taking the licensing exam. Payment will not be accepted at the test center. Examination fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Often, if you fail the exam, the fees are a little cheaper for the next one.(but don’t fail, work with us)

Can You Take The Iowa Real Estate Exam Online?

Yes. In Iowa, you as a student will have both options available; taking the exam at an approved PSI testing to get monitored throughout the exam or to take the remotely proctored online from a computer at a remote location. There is no final grade given when you complete the test, it will simply tell you if you have passed or if you have failed.

What Score Do I Need On The Iowa Real Estate Exam To Pass?

The passing score for the national portion of the examination is 56 correct answers (70%), and the passing score for the state portion is 28 (70%) correct answers for salesperson. And the passing score for brokers is 60 correct answers (80%) on the national portion and 30 correct answers (80%) on the state portion.
